Free Music Notes for Young Frankenstein: The New Mel Brooks MusicalFree Music Review: Obnoxious and Stupid Hit: 1 Stars
When they decided to charge $375 for the top tickets, I decided that there was no way I was going to aid Mel Brooks and company in the destruction of Broadway. (Disney is doing a pretty good job of that as well!) There is only one reason for those ticket prices..GREED! I don't care how good or bad Young Frankenstein was, I refused to put money in their pockets, and that means staying away from the CD as well. And having heard most of the score now on Accuradio, I can say without a doubt that it is pedestrian, tasteless and dull. All the classic lines from the film are there, but now the wit has been stripped out of them, and only high school bathroom humor is left. The score is terrible, can't come close to The Producers, and not saved by the performances. Stay away at all costs, don't waste your money on the CD.
And mercifully, this high priced ticket mess has closed!!
Free Music Review: Young Frankenstein is monsterously bad Hit: 1 Stars
Having loved the score for The Producers, I finally broke down and bought this album despite all the negative reviews of the show. Just as the overwrought film version of The Producers blew most of the charm out of the original show, the original cast album of Young Frankenstein takes the same disasterous approach. A few good songs occur, almost by accident, but most of the score is pedestrian. However, the bigger problem lies in the nature of the original film. Young Frankenstein is a far subtler (and better) comedy, probably more a tribute to Gene Wilder's touch on the screenplay than Mel Brooks directorial hand. As such, the score for the musical works against the mood of the show rather than taking it to a new level as The Producers score did.
All in all, a colossal disappointment.
Free Music Review: Frankenstein Forgot the Heart Hit: 1 Stars
Number one, the songs are so trite and obvious, they're boring. If Mel had any sense, he would have used John Morris to create the score for this as he did for the original film. Probably the best thing in Morris' career is the somber violin playing the theme from the film, which is completely absent from this, yet makes the film what it is. Yes they used Berlin's Ritz in this stage version, but even that is a far shadow from the wonderful film version.
It sounds unfair to compare the two, but let's face it, "Producers" as a film and as a stage show were two completely different entities, both wonderful in their own way, but this, as so many other agree, misses the mark completely.
Free Music Review: The worst show on broadway Hit: 1 Stars
I got tickets to this disaster just before the reviews came out. BIG MISTAKE! Mel Brooks owes me every penny back I paid for this dreck (love the actors, love the movie... don't see or listen to this dreck). I pass the theatre every day on the way to work... if people are waiting outside I make a point to talk them out of wasting their money.
Free Music Review: SO Disappointed Hit: 1 Stars
I purchased the CD with the hopes of clever and catchy tunes as we have come to expect from Mr. Brooks. I was sadly disappointed. Too much crudeness and not enough cleverness. I could barely make myself finish it once thru, much listen to it a second time. Yuk. and that's my professional opinion!
