Free Music Notes for Young Modern AlbumFree Music Review: Dissociatives album No. 2 Hit: 2 StarsThis latest album by silverchair can be viewed in two different ways:
1. As a triumph. Showing Daniel Johns' songwriting ability. or
2. Disappointing. Fans have been waiting 5 long years after the excellent "Diorama" for the next studio album from silverchair and they have received an effort that is much unwanted.
I think this album is number 2.
This album is not a rock album.
It is but a pop/computer sounding/non-existing bass/computer drum beat album.
Chris Joannou and Ben Gillies are not required at all for this album.
The only reason you could call it "silverchair" is because of the line-up , with Ben and Chris, and they contribute nothing but their musical skills which could be recorded by anyone who can play the bass or drums. It's like they are puppets and Daniel Johns is the puppeteer.
If you like to listen to Silverchair because of Daniel Johns' singing then you will enjoy this album. But, if you listen to Silverchair because they are a rock band then you will be greatly annoyed that you spent $20 on this cd.
Daniel Johns should have saved about three quarters of this album for the next Dissociatives album.
But there are good spots on the album which are enjoyable eg. straight lines, young modern station and one or two songs later in the album which are listenable. Straight lines is definitely the best song.
If you are a Silverchair fan then buy this album for your collection. But if your someone who heard a few Silverchair songs and liked what you heard then go and buy either "Diorama", "Neon Ballroom, "Freak Show" or "Frogstomp" as they may inspire you to buy another one of their albums.
