Free Music Notes for You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown (1999 Broadway Revival Cast)Free Music Review: Worth Every Penny Hit: 5 StarsI really enjoy listening to this as i do my homwork or whatever. I recieved it as a gift when I was Sally in a local production. The director had added "My New Philosophy" (who knows why it was soooo hard!) but listening to this helped, and now my brother also knows it by heart and we sing it together. even thought my show was 2 years ago, it's still a fave to pop in the player if i'm down and want to hear all the joys of childhood on one track, "Happieness." (did i spell that right? =D ) but really, it is worth it! =)
Free Music Review: i could see the colorful settings Hit: 5 StarsI bought this CD to practice for my part in my middle schools version of "YAGMCB" in which i play Linus. I also purchased the 1967 version and, in comparison, the '67 version sounds more like "It's your Funeral, Charlie Brown." Not that it was very bad, but it lacked the excitement that this one most definately has. The cast of this one was very enthusiastic about it. They sounded, like a bunch of very talented kids. Through hearing their singing and seeing the pictures of the characters, as I listened to the songs, I could actually see them being performed in my head. I could see the bright, colorful settings, and the characters interacting in front of them. All in all, this CD is definately worth getting, for fans of "Good ol' Charlie Brown" as well as fans of the Musical Theatre.
Free Music Review: Catchy, Catchy, Catchy! Hit: 4 StarsAlthough I prefer the original off-Broadway cast recording to this one, this is the CD I fell in love with! The numbers are incredibly catchy (I sing them non-stop!) and are quite funny in the good old Peanuts fashion. However, some of the characters are hard to identify with the Peanuts gang such as those who play Linus, Schroeder and Lucy, but they gave great performances! A real credit to the CD is the actress who plays Sally (sorry, I'm really bad with names!) and her song, My New Philosophy is one you wish was included in the original cast recording! Overall a great album and enjoyable in its own right. But if you get this one, be sure and pick up the original cast album as you'll love that one just as much!
Free Music Review: I Saw It Hit: 5 StarsI was one of the lucky few to be able to see this revival during the short time it was on Broadway. It's a shame they took it off, whatever the reason was, because in my personal opinion this is one my favorites. The characters are so innocent and well-played that you almost forget that adults are playing them. Both my parents loved Kristen Chenowith's performance as Sally Brown, but my personal favorite was Roger Bart's Snoopy because his voice was just oh-so dreamy (don't mind my adolescent hormones). Anyway, get this CD. You'll love it.
Free Music Review: Happiness is Listening to this album Hit: 5 StarsI've seen two very enthusiastic local productions of this show, but the truth is they can't compare to this recording. Usually, the title song is done as a march. Here it has more of a modern jazz pop feel that is truly joyous. Both new songs have become favorites of mine. And what can I say about Roger Bart's Snoopy that hasn't been said? I laugh out loud each time I hear his performance. Now I wish I had seen him do this show. One other thing, I don't know about the rest of you Charlie Brown fans out there, but this particular rendition of "Happiness Is" has become even more poignant and emotional since the passing of Sparky Schulz. I'm glad I bought this disc, and you'll be glad, too.
