Free Music Notes for You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown (1999 Broadway Revival Cast)Free Music Review: Delightful! Hit: 5 StarsThose of us who grew up with the Peanuts gang can really relate to this musical. This is not a children's musical, but instead a musical relating the silliness of an adult world through the eyes of children. This is a newer version, which has brought some very welcome changes. The orchestration of the pit is different, using a woodwind player (flute, clarinet, sax) and a violinist. The cast is terrific (even though Lucy can be abrasive.)
Free Music Review: great music Hit: 5 Starsi'm the head sound engineer for the children's musical theater, san jose that puts on outstanding performances and this was no exception. i loved the music from this musical so much when we performed it. the music itself is well written along with the words. every song from the opening to the bows shows excellent creativity and will stay in your head for a long time after you hear this remarkable cd.
Free Music Review: Simplistic, but Adorable! Hit: 5 StarsWhen I first heard there was a Charlie Brown musical, I cringed. But then I heard the album and my opinion changed drastically. The cast of this revival is absolutely stunning; they really add the "Peanuts" flair to it. Anthony Rapp (whom I loved and adored in Rent) is the perfect Charlie Brown. If you just listen to Rent you can tell what a great actor this man is- he can be a struggling would-be director one minute and a kid who's down on his luck the next. Ilana Levine, as Lucy, takes some getting used to (mainly on the high notes) but her attitude is perfect! She's so self-absorbed! *laughs* Stanley Wayne Mathis is terrific as Schroeder. He definitely embodies our favorite piano-playing Beethoven wonder boy. B.D. Wong, as Linus, is so adorable in "My Blanket and Me". He gives new meaning to the term 'security blanket'. Kristen Chenoweth is *perfect* as Sally (who, I've realized, is a mixture of Sally and Peppermint Patty), especially in her duet with Schroeder, "My New Philosophy". It's so adorable, and catchy! And last but not least, Roger Bart as Snoopy. He's great; I can really envision him as being a dog on a red doghouse. If only he had a Woodstock. *sigh* Anyway, this album is truly worth getting. The songs are simple, but they really tell a lot about children and the joys of life. Not a waste of money at all!!
Free Music Review: You're A Bad Revival, Charlie Brown Hit: 3 StarsThe newer sound is nice at times, but for the most part, overall, I give the cd 3 stars. My reasons are as follows: First off, Lucy is irritatting as heck! I agree with the reviewer above who wrote that Fran Drescher was less aggravating to hear. Although I do enjoy everyone else's performance on the cd, with the other exception of BD WONG as Linus. Lisping is a good thing if the writer wrote it that way. If you look at the comic strip, does Linus lisp? No. Charles M. Schulz did not write it that way, why did Linus lisp in the revival? I think a badly directed production perhaps. I like New Philosophy, but I can't enjoy the solo they gave Schroeder as the song gets on my nerves. And why did they change Patty to Sally in the show? Did only black haired and blonde actresses audition for the production? I'm sorry, but if I were Clark Gesner, I'd be rolling in my grave. If he's not dead, I would die from hearing this cd.
Free Music Review: If you love the original, don't buy this one... Hit: 2 StarsI guess I'm a traditionalist, and grew up with the original cast recording. I didn't like this new version at all. You're in luck though! The original cast recording is now available.
