Free Music Notes for MescaleroFree Music Review: Just a few good songs, the rest is crap Hit: 2 StarsI am a very big fan of ZZ top and, believe me, Most songs on this record are quite shallow and uninspired. Terrible singing in spanish also. You only 5 or six few decent level songs
Free Music Review: Disappointed After All These Years! Hit: 1 StarsBeen a ZZ Top fan from their entry onto the scene (long time ago); have always eagerly awaited the new releases...but I wish I hadn't spent my money on this. Very disappointed in the overproduction and techno influence infused into every track on this CD. You got my money this time, but I'll think twice next time!
Free Music Review: America's New National Anthem Hit: 5 StarsJust wanted to report: I've now listened to the song "Me So Stupid" approximnately 101 times, and am still not tired of it. Given the so-called "dumbing down" of America, I think this song would be perfect for the new national anthem of the United States of America. Everyone stand, put your hand on your heart and sing: "Me so stupid..." God bless America.
Free Music Review: Going where no man has gone before Hit: 4 StarsThis album has a groove from beginning to end. Its the best and most complete album they have released in a long time. Billy Gibbons is constantly trying to grow as a player and his sound on this album is really unique. The lyrics are fun and the songs really groove its just a good time to be had by all. ZZ top blends some different styles of music together but it all works well together. It has 16 cuts and there all good. New territory is covered here and it sounds like they had fun making this record cause it seems to come threw in the songs. Buy it try it and you will not be able to take it out of the CD player it gets better with each spin.
Free Music Review: Great Music, Lousy CD Hit: 3 StarsThis is the best ZZ Top CD for over a decade. The humour is there, the dirty fuzz sounds are there, the techno beats are not.
Worthy of more stars except the CD quality sucks. I at first thought it was just "volume maximised", ie. the recorded level is set way to high. But no, gross distortion has been introduced by deliberate digital hard limiting, the amount varying from track to track, presumably depending on how "gritty" they wanted each track to sound. The result is just bad sound. This is the worst mastered CD I have come across.
If they wanted a gritty sound, the correct way to do it is before/during mixing. Apply hard limiting to the guitar, not the whole damn thing. Yuk.
Avoid European copies - they have the added benefit of "copy protection" deliberately introduced data errors.
