Free Music Notes for Tres HombresFree Music Review: Classic Hit: 5 StarsNo doubt the best ZZ Top offering of all! Three chord blues at it's finest! A total classic! This album/cassette/CD/ has been rockin' households for the last 35 years and still will be for the next 35 years as long as there are beer drinkers and hell raisers!
Free Music Review: Why did the Top ever quit playing this style?... Hit: 5 Stars Texas boogie is the best way to describe this album (their best album) and this is the style I love them in.I never came to terms with their 80's persona and I never thought that they should have abandoned the trademark style that endeared them to so many of us in the 70's.Songs like "La Grange", "Beer Drinkers and Hell Raisers", "Hot, Blue and Righteous", "Precious and Grace", "Master of Sparks" and "Move Me On Down The Line" put their 80's work to shame. The days of cowboy hats, rhinestone suits and "That Little 'Ol Band From Texas" beat the days of long beards hands down.Get this album(along with "Rio Grande Mud", "Fandango" and "Tejas") and boogie to your hearts content.
Free Music Review: How, How, How, How... Hit: 5 StarsThis is "THE" ZZ Top album. An absolute classic. One great tune after another. If you don't already own this you need to get with it kid.
Free Music Review: Tres Hombres Hit: 5 StarsI had this, originally, on vinyl, then, later, I bought the CD of 1990. That CD always impressed me with its incredible drum sounds. I bought this because it was remastered & had three bonus cuts.
This was the first Top album I ever bought & I now consider it to be second only to Eliminator. This album was the one that broke Z Z Top into the public with "La Grange", "Waitin' For the Bus" & "Jesus Just Left Chicago" which are still some of my favorite Top songs. "Beer Drinkers and Hell Raisers" is an excellent album cut. Normally, Rhino does an excellent job on the remastering process but, here, I found the drums to be somewhat subdued. So, I have mixed feelings on that regard. The three bonus cuts are all live versions of the three best known songs from this album. That's okay, but it's no great shakes in my book. After more than thirty years I still enjoy listening to this album.
Free Music Review: THREE BAD MEN!! Hit: 5 StarsI have a soft spot for this album because it was the first ZZ Top album I ever heard. A buddy of mine turned me on to it when it was their new release back in the day. I still have it on vinyl and just ordered this Rhino remaster. This is the ZZ Top I prefer, not the ZZ Top of 'Legs' or 'Sharp Dressed Man' even though I do like those songs. Their sound got a little too slick for my taste. This album has a rawness to it that I love and there isn't a bad track here. Great guitar tone from Billy and he tears it up, especially on Beer Drinkers and Hell Raisers. And of course the Top classic 'La Grange' is here. This album SHOULD be a part of any ZZ Top collection.
