Free Music Notes for ZZ Top - Greatest HitsFree Music Review: The Best From The Rockin' Blues Power Trio Hit: 5 StarsZZ Top has a very unique style which has distinguished them from other groups of the 70s and 80s. Comprised of Billy Gibbons on lead guitar, Dusty Hill on bass, and Frank Beard on drums, ZZ Top relies on good old-fashioned guitars and drums rather than keyboards to get their sound across. They have succeeded extremely well, and this Greatest Hits collection is a testament to their staying power.
This great cd is an anthology of hits that has made ZZ Top a successful band for almost thiry years. Unforgettable songs such as "Sharp Dressed Man", "Tush", "Tube Snake Boogie", and "Cheap Sunglasses" have become staples of ZZ Top. Perhaps the best song on the disc is the extended version of "Legs". Each song showcases ZZ Top's unique sound and Billy Gibbons' distinct vocal style.
Each song on this disc is excellent. I recommend this disc very highly. Pick up ZZ Top's Greatest Hits and listen to some good Rrockin' blues music at its absolute best.
Free Music Review: ZZ Top keeps rockin' Hit: 5 StarsThis Texas rock group still has the chops and the greatest hits CD makes it clear why the band has staying power. The guitar riffs are still exciting and the bass is sure to rattle the windows of home or car. All in all, a worthwhile addition to the collection of any rock fan.
Free Music Review: never heard it yet Hit: 3 StarsI bought this CD before I went back to Georgia, and I have not
listened to it yet! A friend of mine wanted me to listen to this
the day before I went traveling. There are a few greates so far
and these guys were good. I may litsen to this when I come back
and listen to it in the car.
Free Music Review: Save your money Hit: 2 StarsZZ top is a great band thats why ig ave this 2 stars.....but this greatest hits album lacks there early stuff. Its mostly from 77 and on like there MTV days when they became "pop". If you whant there early stuff (wich is better in my opinoin buy there first 2 albums).
Free Music Review: Decent compliation from the Texas rockers Hit: 4 StarsZZ Top, without question, are one of the finest southern rock/blues bands on the face of the earth. Their music can be fun, hip, and majestic at the same time. This is one of plenty of hits/best of compliations for the band, the one I'm reviewing, was released in 1992. How does it measure up from the band's era from the 70s through early 90s? Read on for my review for the pros and cons section.
PROS:
-IT'S GOT MOST OF THE BIG HITS A CASUAL FAN COULD EVER NEED. You got their biggest hits from this peroid of their career, like La Grange, Tush, Sharp Dressed Man, Legs, and Cheap Sunglasses, to name a few.
-YOU GET SOME NEW TRACKS HERE FOR BONUS TREATMENT! New material includes Viva Las Vegas, Doubleback, and Gun Love. Plus, the version of Legs you get on here is a Remix, basically the same thing as the Eliminator version, but even longer and better!
-AS WELL AS THE BIG HITS, YOU GET SOME UNDERRATED MASTERPIECES HERE AS WELL. Songs like Tube Snake Boogie, Planet of Women, and Give It Up, which weren't quite big hits, are included here.
-IT'S CHEAP AT MOST PLACES NOW. A casual fan will be in paradise once they see it for about 8.99, so that is very excitingly affordable.
CONS:
-WHERE'S TV DINNERS? WTF!? I can see that they used many songs from Eliminator, but this ominission is unforgivable, since it was one of the band's biggest hits!
-EVEN WORSE, THIS DISC ONLY COVERS THE BIG HITS OF THE 70S, THE ENTIRE 80S, AND SOME OF THE 90S. Sure, there's 18 songs here, but, One Disc does NOT do the band justice. Luckily there's a dual-disc counterpart, Rancho Texicano: The Very Best Of ZZ Top, which is MUCH better if casual fans want to shell out the cash. Other songs MIA on here are Jesus Just Left Chicago, Heard It On the X, and Waiting For the Bus.
-NO SONGS FROM THE FIRST 2 CD'S, NONE FROM THE 1976 RELEASE TEJAS, OR FROM THE POST-RECYCLER ALBUMS. Like I said, there's a better dual-disc counterpart called Rancho Texicano (though no post-Recycler material isn't on there <_<).
Anyway, that's all for now, I might update that in the future. My advice is that if you're a casual fan and want to start with a hits compliation, start here. Or, even better, if you want to shell out that extra cash, get the dual-disc Rancho Texicano. Otherwise, if you want to start with an original album, Eliminator would be a fine choice. Peace!
