Free Music Review: Zakk and co. live, the only thing better is being there
Hit: 4 Stars

This live release from riff and beer meister Zakk Wylde's Black Label Society successfully captures Zakk and co. the way they are meant to be heard: live. Zakk's guitar mastery is captured perfectly; all the emotion he pours into his guitar is utterly amazing. Zakk's vocals however can be a different story, and while I love Zakk's rough but soulful voice, it sounds a bit strained here, but you can get used to it. "Stronger Than Death", "Super Terrorizer", "Lost My Better Half", "Bored to Tears", and Zakk's reworking of "No More Tears" are brought to life live beautifully, but it's too bad that other BLS favorites like "Hey You (Batch of Lies)", "Counterfeit God", "Just Killing Time", and "Love Reign Down" weren't included on the live set. During and between songs Zakk speaks to the fans and goes off on some rants (I for one love his remark on Limp Bizkit that seems to come out of nowhere), and while this live set isn't perfect by any means, it is still a must have for BLS fans worldwide.

Free Music Review: It can't get better than this...

I was down in Brazil when I first heard of this CD. I enjoyed it but not as much as when I bought my own and actually sat down to listen to it. I have been looking for a band like this for the longest time. I am sick of those punk bands that play ... What is so good about Black label society is that they mix different instruments into hard rock. It is just gorgeous!!! I highly recomend this cd. If you enjoy hard rock with a different tone to it, get this cd! It has the best songs of all from BLS! CD #1 is hard rock with amazing 3-4minutes solos! CD#2 has only acustic songs! Very good!!! I don't know which one I like better yet. I just wish they would have more acustic songs in the second cd because it is just great! Great mix! Great buy!!! Every penny I spent on it was worth it!!!

For anyone that has not heard any of Zakk's solo work this is definitely the CD to purchase first. You get the best cuts off both the BLack Label albums, including a searing 3 minute solo, as well as a second disk with his Heart of Gold (Neil Young Cover), Snowblind (Sabbath) and three other originals. The second disk is basically acoustic with a little electric over the top but it doesn't ruin the mood. I've heard many of the Zakk bootlegs out there and some are quite good but none capture the clarity of this recording (naturally). This band is tight and plays with conviction to say the least. I remember reading that Zakk said he has to write songs about things that mean something to him and that comes through in this recording. I've had this cd for about 6 weeks now and I'm still satisfied with the purchase and would recommend it to anyone.

Free Music Review: BLEED BLACK LABEL LIVE!!
Hit: 5 Stars

This live album is my pick for best overall album of 2001! I will first say that I often refer to BLS as the heaviest band I will listen to. Ither than this, I am mainly a fan of Classic Heavy rock, 80s Metal and Prog stuff. However, Zakk has always just been a top notch musician who drew me into whatever he did. I feel his stuff with Ozzy is exceptional. Book Of Shadows was very different and experimental for him, and I dig that. Pride & Glory was also really cool Southern Rock/Metal. Then BLS came along. And at first listen, i knew it was going to be very different than the other music I listened to. And I also knew that it rocked. This Live cd is the third BLS release and definetly the one I listen to most. It is just [ a very good] Live album. You can get a much better rush from this than any of that NU Metal garbage. My fave tune has to be "Bored To Tears". For some reason I caqn just listen to that tune all the time. How about the ultra heavy "Super Terrorizor"? That one blows me away. And anyone who says on live records that "Limp Bizkit [isn't very good]" is on my good list. Zakk's playing is top notch. This is not just heavy music. This is talent behind it. Any band can chug dark chords. That is not what you get with BLS. You get musicianship. Dark and dirty and gritty amazing musicianship. I love the updated keyboardless "No More Tears" I find it superior to the original version. The tunes on here are all solid. The second disc is not live, but still very cool. Although I do not listen to it as much as disc 1. I reccomend this to anyone who digs heavy music brewed on blood, sweat and beers. This band should be the biggest metal band out there today. Maybe someday people will figure it out. Also, the 2 studio albums are must haves. And the entire Zakk Collection is also worth getting so get to it. BLEED BLACK LABEL!!

Well, what else is there to say but that it's simply Zakk doing what he does best: peeling the paint off the walls with a guitar! The thing that jumped right out at me is that his guitar is tuned even lower than the studio Black Label Society recordings, which adds even more thickness and darkness to the sound (if that's even possible) and makes it easier for Zakk to sing live. The musicianship is unparalled and the recording is produced very well. The crowd isn't miked (it seems), and you can hear 'em in the background, but the main focal point is left to the music. I am pretty much in awe every time I hear Zakk play, and this is no exception. From start to finish, a CD well worth your money. All I can say to the Society Dwellers is to grab this if you haven't already
