Free Music Notes for The Secret Garden: Original Motion Picture SoundtrackFree Music Review: The Secret Garden Hit: 5 StarsAs I listen to this music I am drawn back to the wonderful story of an orphaned little girl who finds love and joy locked away behind an old garden door. The best way to enjoy this music is to listen to it while reading "A Secret Garden"!
Free Music Review: Excellent Soundtrack Hit: 5 StarsIt really is a wonder why this soundtrack didn't even get an Academy Award nomination. Zbigniew Preisner composed something so clear, so beautiful, and so emotional which immediately evokes images of a wonderful garden set in the English countryside. That the movie itself was never recognised, either, for its beautiful simplicity combined perfectly with its moving strings and choir, shows that movies and music such as this are not appreciated in a world obsessed with all things vulgar.
The reason that "Winter Light" was not included in the soundtrack is beyond me. The music in the song was, after all, not written by Linda Ronstadt (as some seem to think), but rather Zbigniew Preisner himself. Ronstadt simply sang it. The main theme he wrote for the movie was later incorporated into Winter Light.
In any case, it is a soundtrack I highly recommend.
Free Music Review: Gorgeous music! Hit: 5 StarsZbiniew Preisner's music score to the classic 1993 version of The Secret Garden has masterpiece written all over it! In every note! This music is absolutely delightful, slow but very, very uplifting and pleasant to listen to. The only problem with this soundtrack was the lack of the song "Winter Light" by Linda Ronstadt featured in the closing credits of the film which practically inspired more than half of the melodies heard in this still-amazing soundtrack. I have "Winter Light" on my computer, so I'm all good and will not take any stars away for that.
Some of the tracks are really short which is really a shame some times because they're lovely and you'd wish they would play longer. Other tracks are much longer and a little better. The recording is sharp and plain fantastic, while the vocal chorus performance is top-notch. My favorite tracks include "Walking Through The Garden", "Mary and the Robin Together", "Colin Opens His Eyes", "Colin Senses Craven", "Happily Ever After" and the greatest of them all, "Awakening of Spring."
Two other highly recommended soundtracks are "A Little Princess" for the 1995 classic film and "Alice in Wonderland" for the 1999 TV masterpiece.
Free Music Review: Unfinished music Hit: 4 Stars
I listened to the tracks on Amazon before buying this cd, and I thought, "How lovely! I wish it would play the whole song," little realizing that Amazon was not really cutting the songs that short! I thought that on a cd the whole song would play, but instead it plays like it was a part of the short movie segment and then trails off without a proper middle or end.
The pieces are all extremely short, not one goes beyond 3:33 or so and most are around a minute. Don't get me wrong, the music is absolutely beautiful, and I am pleased to have it, but most likely I would not have bought it had I heard it first. Unless you adore the movie and don't mind music that appears unfinished, I would instead suggest buying a different cd by the composer.
Free Music Review: Music to dream to! Hit: 5 StarsI've had this cd for a few years now, and I still consider it one of my most worthwhile purchases. It's utterly gorgeous mood music, the perfect soundtrack for relaxing daydreams. It's also great music to write to, and to read to. This is truly the kind of music that gives you that pleasant tingle up your spine and stirs your imagination. I highly recommend this soundtrack to all the dreamers out there.
