Free Music Review: Pumpkins are Back??

Okay, first of all this is actually a pretty good album. To be honest it is better than I expected! So what's the problem you ask? Why only three stars? The problem is the fact that the Pumpkins were one of the best bands in the world for years, and like any band, they have to be compared to their back catalog. Siamese dreams is one of the best albums ever with Melon Collie coming in a close second. Hell, I would put pisces iscariot up against just about anything coming out today. Simply put, this album just doesn't live up to just about everything else the Pumpkins have released. It's unfortunate because if I had never heard them before I would consider this a great album.
Secondly, THIS IS NOT THE SMASHING PUMPKINS. For all you who say that Billy and Jimmy were basically all that mattered in the pumpkins you are simply wrong. Billy and Jimmy were ZWAN. Anyone who has played in a band knows that everyone plays an integral part in the sound and song development. Take anyone out and it's simply not the same. This should have been considered the second ZWAN album. In fact I would consider this an exceptional album in that case since it is far better than the "official" ZWAN album, and the songs here more closely resemble ZWAN than the Pumpkins.
Go ahead and bash me, but the best songs on Zeitgeist are just not as good as the worst on Gish, Siamese Dreams, Mellon Collie, Pisces iscariot, or Adore. OK, maybe it's better than Machina I, but that's not saying much. I will always love the Pumpkins and I will support anything Billy puts out no matter what he calls it, but this sounds like a mediocre Pumpkins cover band trying to write original material. Of course this is just my opinion :)
