Free Music Notes for The GardenFree Music Review: Great ambiance! Hit: 5 StarsThis is one of those CDs that can stay in the spinner for months, really great for car or home.
Free Music Review: Very Little For Such Talent Hit: 2 StarsI was surprised when I purchased this album. Not as interesting as I
thought it would be. I found it boring. The only song I liked was
"the Pageant of the bizarre"; it's truly Zero 7.
Free Music Review: Solid but not exciting Hit: 3 StarsI've been faithfully listening to Zero 7 for going on 5 years now. Simple Things blew my mind away and I became an instant fan. I loved the instrumental tracks and I thought that the songs with words were pure gems (Destiny). The second album was great too, loved the diversity of Sia, Sophia and Tina and Passing By is one of my favorite songs to this day. Then comes the Garden - I give kudos to Zero 7 for introducing me to Jose G. (My bf and I saw him in concert and he is awesome) but I do agree that this is a Sia worship album. I really like her voice/style but I can only take so much. There are a few songs on this CD that I find myself replaying, but this CD does not have the depth of the other albums. I listened to Simple Things exclusively for two years, every time picking up something new from the songs. I felt that way about When it Falls, but this CD just does not have the same creative energy of the last two.
This is a solid CD but I'm definitely waiting for something more. Hopefully next time they will return to the diversity of singers and types of songs that they had before.
Free Music Review: Fruition... Hit: 5 StarsI'll be the first to admit that I dismissed Zero 7 as another generic electronica/ambient band when I first heard them; I found the progressions and melodies to be a little simplistic, although pleasant for mellowing out. I listened to them on occasion, but usually preferred Telepopmusik or Air when I was in the mood to listen to that sort of music.
However, 'The Garden' had me converted within minutes of popping the CD in. It seems to me that Zero 7, having spent some years looking for their 'sound' in a genre replete with innovative and stylish musicians, have truly reinvented themselves in terms of maturity and musical quality... this album is just plain cool. The tracks are rich and varied and have an overall soothing quality when listened to.
Long story short -- I am very impressed with this album and feel it is their best; if you liked previous works but weren't crazy about them, it's probably worth it to give this newest release a try. Honestly, it's a great album and chances are you'll enjoy it!
Free Music Review: Deeply disappointing... Hit: 1 StarsI ran out and bought this cd the very day it came out. Then sat listening anxiously for something to stir inside of me. Alas, nothing. A few weeks later, still nothing. A month later, I tried again. I yawned... Then I got up and cleaned the kitchen finding that more interesting. When I first started listening to Zero 7, I was drawn, pulled, attached to their music. I got it, it got me--we connected. My friend Mel asked me the other day how this cd was and I let her listen to it; she yawned and said, "I guess they've lost it". Should they release another cd, I'd borrow it from the library first and then buy it only if I really love it. But this cd was deeply disappointing...
