This album really touched me deep down inside...Everyone should be able to identify with the songs "Crush"and"Piece It Together"...Growning up as a shy bookworm(with BESIEGED self-esteem)there were many girls that I had crushes on,who didn't(appear to)know that I even existed!!! INCAPABLE,of percieving(at this point in my life,as a DIRECT result of the nefariously calculated and systematic dismantling of my self-esteem)that(a lot of)girls'were attracted to{gasp}ME!I just went on with my("boring"and"sissified")knowledge(and comic-book/science-fiction/fantasy)centered life...Of particular note,was a"drop-dead"GORGEOUS(Chinese/Black mix)young lady that I would've fought a pride of ravenous Lions'just to spend 5 minutes,of conversation with!!!In retrospect(and sans any esteem issues')I can see that she probably liked me also!!Now I realize that she was(surreptitiously)flirting with me all the while!! Like they say:"Hindsight is 20/20"..Point being...I spent the remainder of the schoolyear admiring her(from a distance)and never uttering a WORD to her(This incident mirrors the theme of this song:"I loved(her)and(she)DIDN'T know")which causes this following question in the song:"Have you ever loved somebody,fell in love with somebody,who DIDN'T know?!?"to have real relevance to me...,I couldn't CONCIEVE of a"walking dream"like she,even looking twice,at the LOSER,that I(in my STAGGERED self-esteem days)considered myself to be!!She'd probably run in disgust if I attempted to"holla"at her,I feared!!Zhane addressed this VERY issue when they sang:"Would he turn around,walk AWAY,would he leave or would he stay If I TOLD him?!?"That line right there is the chief reason that I LOVE this album the way I do...That and the touching"Piece It Together"Only song I know of that deals with the (very real)issue of how much time a heart-broken individual should give themselves' to recover,before they "jump back into the"swimming pool"That songs'lyrics'almost bring a(street-hardened)dude like me to tears when I note the sincerety in her voice as these haunting truths' are sadly sang:"I never thought that love could hurt a heart so long.."It has been SO long.." "It seems like FOREVER!!" "Pain can be so STIFLING" When do you KNOW that you've healed enough to enter into another(trust-based)relationship without hauling a TRUCKLOAD of skeletons'into the"next time at bat"?!? These following lyrics are touching:"I CAN'T forget,the last time,someone broke my heart,ripped it all apart,and I'm STILL trying to piece it together")Confronting issues'that"Crush"and "Piece It Together"adress is what seperates' this album from the standard:"That low-life scum cheated on me" topic,that EVERYONE,has made a song about,to the point where it's cliche'and redundant!!Here,Zhane'takes topics' that are just as real but not "run into the ground"by every clown with a microphone and a decent voice!!! I could actually go on for days' discussing this albums finer points!!!
