Free Music Review: better than most

I've been listening to this one a whole lot again lately, since I have yet to pick up Mike P.'s latest (from the samples I've heard and reviews I've read), more straightforward and stripped-down affair. It's always good to hear the point at which an artist has left off and where he or she continues.
Mu-ziq, no matter what sonic avenue he explores, assimilates sounds--hip hop, techno, breakcore, drum n' bass, noise, electro, etc, into his own distinct voice and style. This is especially true with his most dense and perhaps intense release to date--both rippingly furious and glowingly melodic, in only the way Mike P. can make music, this is a sort of personal homage to all of the influences that make up the Mu-ziq sound, as well as a showcase of what the guy is capable of. Unlike some of his peers, there is a knowing maturity to the way he approaches even the most hardcore tracks. While this is not my favorite Mu-ziq release ("In Pine Effect" and "Lunatic Harness" are tied for that), this is still a truly excellent, highly engaging and at times exhausting listen, revealing new layers with each sitting. Don't be fooled by the jaded heads out there who follow the next flavor of the month. Give this an honest chance, 'cause you won't go wrong here if you're a true Mu-ziq head. This is musical maximalism at its very finest, far more intense and interesting and engaging than anything that the grime, dubstep and breakcore mutants have put out since this sonic-bomb of a release dropped. In the meantime, I highly anticipate picking up his latest and look forward to the new direction Mr. Paradinas has taken this time.
