Free Music Notes for Harmonic TremorsFree Music Review: Upbeat and bass-driven drone. Hit: 5 StarsYeah, there are aspects of this record that fall in line with Isis and related projects, and it does have some continuity with Old Man Gloom, but distinguishing features make this a genre-bending record. First, the bass is really the lead on much of it. The squealing guitar solos are delicious, but they take a backseat to the fuzzy, distorted, driving bass lines. Second, there is almost nothing here that could be described as shoe-gazing. The songs are almost all up-tempo and emotionally upbeat, which is weird because there is a lot of screaming. At the same time, there are a lot of vocal harmonies and, not unlike the newer Cave-In records, these bits sound almost insectoid. But like the older Cave-In, it is HARD. Overall, a very fresh and inspiring record. I look forward to seeing them live.
Free Music Review: AWESOME SONGS! But... Hit: 4 StarsLike a previous person reviewed, the songs are a little short. Compared to Isis and other bands Zozobras longest song is about 5 minutes and the CD is 37:37 long. Its cool, all the songs are very enjoyable. The bassist/vocalist is from a band Cave-In. Cave-In was good but the vocals were too girly for me. Hes a great bassist and he uses a very powerful, deathgripping voice in Zozobra. Truely, a grand CD and you'll be rocking out for awhile after you hear this CD.
Free Music Review: A great addition! Hit: 5 StarsZozobra is another addition to the already great list of artists on hydra head. They add one more dynamic to the label. By the way these guys are incredible live. After Zozobra, Jesu, and Isis concert my chest was sore and I was deaf for a few days. I caught this album after the concert. I feel this is a pretty solid album but I wish it was a couple tracks longer. The great tracks are too short for my liking.
Free Music Review: Good, but... (3.5 Stars) Hit: 4 StarsIt sounds almost like an Old Man Gloom record minus the ambient passages. Almost is the operative word here... It seems almost like an attempt from Caleb Scofield to keep his creative mind moving while Cave In and Old Man Gloom aren't in full-time status. Good ideas, but maybe they should have just remained ideas until the whole can actually come together. It's not bad, it's just not all there in my opinion.
