This is a good album over all but it's a little cleaner than the Scientific Supercake LP and not as heavy as Share the Fantasy. There seems to be a bit more experimentation, if you want to call it that, or maybe it's more straightforward in terms of songwriting. I wouldn't label anything a hit but the little collabo with one Calvin Johnson on the title track has some potential mass appeal. Personal favorites are Buttress of Solitude and the lengthy Guardians of the Threshold.
Skyward in Triumph Poster
With apologies to Sun Ra, this North Dakota-bred power duo provides ample evidence that bass is the place. Using nothing more than a hyper-charged bass guitar and a thoroughly sternum-shattering drumkit, surname-free pals Mike and Dan plumb the depths of the sonic spectrum without sacrificing an iota of song structure (often a casualty on the duo's previous work). If you can imagine an even more pared-down version of the Melvins--albeit one with more of a pop flair--you'll have a notion of what goes on under the roof of this 'Silo.
