Free Music Notes for A Wonderful WorldFree Music Review: Simply Marvelous Hit: 5 StarsThis album is the natural culmination of the Tony Bennett-k.d. lang pairing that we first heard back on Tony's "MTV Unplugged" album. On that cd, Tony introduced k.d. by calling her one of the greatest girl singers; on this cd, she proves him absolutely right. She is, quite simply, sublime. Listen to her rendition of "Lucky Old Sun" and you won't need to hear any superlatives from me to understand. k.d. is the best female voice around, and a pairing with the best male voice still around after fifty years is simply heaven. Their voices are perfect together, and the unobtrusive jazz arrangements are the ideal showcase for these two. I've always been in love with Tony Bennett (in fact, what can I say in this review except that he is wonderful as usual?), but it wasn't until this album that I fell in love with the artistry of k.d. lang as well. It was once said of Fred Astaire that he reminded people that the world was good. The same can be said for these two.
Free Music Review: MASTERFUL BLENDING!! BRAVO TONY & k.d. LANG!!! Hit: 5 StarsThis is a soothing collection of classics that brings together an unlikely pair of great vocalists who enchant and flow together perfectly!! "Wonderful World" becomes a classic all over again and this masterwork is full of wonderful surprises and is beautifully arranged!! Who could ask for anything more!! Get it and enjoy!!! Thank you k.d. and Tony!!! Encore!!!!
Free Music Review: Lang tops Bennett Hit: 4 Starsok....yes, Tony Bennett is a legend, but this performance demonstrates that he has become a song stylist and should consider retirement as the great voice is a bit too rough around the edges. BUT, KD Lang has never been better. That woman can sing! and, she just owns these great songs. This CD is certainly worth buying for KD alone. And, it is evident that these two talented singers have a great admiration for each other, Louis Armstrong, and this wonderful material. I just keep wishing that KD had recorded this as a solo venture.
Free Music Review: A CD You'll Listen To Again Hit: 4 StarsAlthough it lacks perfection as some reviewers have noted, I find myself listening to this CD over and over. At it's best many of these renditions, especially from Tony Bennett, capture a bit of the essential humanity which made Louie Armstrong's versions of these songs classics. The songs on this CD are presented simply with concern and care for the lyrics and with a subtle, reverential nod to Armstrong's interpretations, without any attempt to merely copy.
Free Music Review: Mellow music Hit: 5 StarsVery nice, mellow music to relax to. Bennett is always a winner, and KD blends in nicely.
