Free Music Notes for Drag

Free Music Review: Wow.
Hit: 5 Stars

I put off buying this CD for far too long. Everything that I love about k.d. lang comes through beautifully on this CD. Her voice is so pure, so smooth, so refined that it's hard to listen to other singers after this. Of course, that's the ultimate irony about a CD which is a collection of songs about cigarettes, smoking, and breathing! I can also honestly say that I never, ever expected to like a song by Air Supply, but she takes "The Air That I Breathe" to a new level. If you are looking for a refined pop vocalist, look no further. You have hit the jackpot.

Free Music Review: Definitely NOT a Drag.

We've all made the comparison. lang and Patsy. That's what makes this album surreal. Owen Bradley brings life to his unforgettable sound once again, for the last time, and with the only talent worthy, since Cline flew off into history.

Some of these smoke-themed tunes are indeed lighter than air, but lang breathes life into them as only she can. Others, like the deeply moving "My old addiction" are so heavy that only a talent as strong as lang could carry them. And carry them she does, with a voice that is a gift from heaven.

Free Music Review: "Valley of the Dolls" is worth the price of admission
Hit: 5 Stars

I've never purchased a kd album before I bought this one. Now I want to buy "Ingenue" and the rest to see what I've been missing. No fan of country, it took me a while to come to her table. Then I saw her belt "Help Me" on the TNT Joni Mitchell tribute and was sold on her. What a voice, what an interpreter. And anyone who covers "Theme from Valley of the Dolls" with reverence gets my buck. "The Air That I Breathe" transforms a song I once hated into a gem. I still want her live version of Roy Orbison's "Crying". What a gal.

Free Music Review: great album

i was actually sort or shocked when i found out this album had a loose smoking theme, but was quite relieved when i found out kd was a non-smoker. anyway, the music is wonderful. the album starts off with the ballad "don't smoke in bed", with very nice orchestration and beautiful vocals by kd (as always). "the air that i breathe" is a song i think we can all relate to if you've ever made love of any kind (that's within normal barriers). "smoke dreams" is one of my favorites on the album. it sounds like a song that came out of the 30's or 40's, with a nice, "drag"gy beat (heh heh) and something that sounds like a vibraphone. other favorites are "till the heart caves in", which kd pulls off perfectly; "my old addiction", a beautiful and sad ballad, and "haint it funny?", a clever ballad reminiscent but not as serious as "my old addiction". if you enjoy the more upbeat side of kd lang, this album probably won't really be for you. also, know that this album is not about smoking per se-it has some obvious smoking songs, and some that only have a little reference. anyway, for the die-hard kd lang fan, i definitely recommend this, and i tie this among my favorites of kd lang's work with her 1988 classic "shadowland".

Free Music Review: A Smoking Set of Tunes
Hit: 5 Stars

I've had this album for awhile and it has taken some time warming up to me. I skimmed thru alot of the trax, realizing this album would be best suited for mood or ambiance music (of the coffee house variety). I did stumble upon some really killa kewl stuff, like "The Joker", and "Smoke Rings" (very dreamy and drippy). My most favourite track would have to be "My Last Cigarette". Have U ever listened to the lyrics to that one? Very touching.

I think Kd Lang has alot of style and passion. She shows it here on "Drag". I like the cigarette theme too, how clever and unique to theme up an album such as this.

When I try to quit smoking, my theme will definately be "My Last Cigarette". Thanks KD for making a classy album.
