Free Music Notes for DragFree Music Review: Great songs, beautifully performed. Hit: 4 Starsk.d. lang's "Drag" album shows that her strong voice shines most on downtempo numbers such as are the majority here. And the numbers are the best part! They went out of their way to find a diamond like "Your Smoke Screen", and also had the grit to take on a huge hit like "The Joker"!
Free Music Review: Sultry Velvet Hit: 5 StarsDrag is brilliant. From the first note of 'Don't Smoke in Bed' to the ending cord of 'Love is Like a Cigarette,' k.d. proves once again that she IS the female voice of the 90's. If I can only hear one song again, it would be her rendition of 'Til the Heart Caves In.' NEVER have I felt such emotion from the timbre of a woman's voice or through the perfection of her expression.
Free Music Review: k.d. lang on Smoking - Who Cares? Hit: 1 StarsIt's readily apparent that k.d. lang doesn't realize the emotional power her incredible vocals are capable of from this s l o w and l a z y collection of songs that all have something to do with smoking. Where's the passion in her singing that we've come to love from "Absolute Torch & Twang" and the like. Ms. Lang has the potential to become one of the all time greats, but any more albums like this and this magnificent singer's career is smoked out.
Free Music Review: A k.d. cynic, won back by a wonderful album Hit: 4 StarsIt took me two years to buy this album because I figured "Who wants to listen to songs about smoking? Besides I'm tired of k.d..." Well, it's not about smoking; it's about living. And k.d. has managed to put together a nice set of songs with her impeccable style. It's wonderful to hear classics like Air that I Breathe, Valley of the Dolls, and a version of a Roy Orbison piece that he couldn't help but approve of. While she doesn't display all the virtuosity of some of her other albums, she does a fine job vocalizing on some really enjoyable pieces.
Free Music Review: Incredible cd, one of my favorites Hit: 5 StarsThis cd is absolutly wonderful, from the oh-so-tongue-in-cheek title, to The Joker, to The Air That I Breathe. I'm a former country addict, newly exposed to jazz and blues, and k.d. sucessfully blends them all to create a near-perfect listening experience.
