please don't believe the bad reviews you will come across in regards to this album. those who speak ill of it just don't get what this album is about. this album is NOT about reinventing a bunch of songs and changing them all up so that they are brand new and unrecognizable. this album is about paying HOMAGE to some very beautiful songs from canadian songwriters. i've listened to this album over and over and over again and i can honestly say that it's the best k.d. album she has recorded. i've been a fan since "A Truly Western Experience" in 1985, so I've seen k.d. morph from country to pop to her own creation, which is stunningly beautiful and shows brightly in this new album. she is honoring these songs by not transforming them too much. that isn't to say these dont' bare her stamp--they do very much in the arrangement and in the way she sings them. this album is lush, moving and will bring you to tears. for instance, "the valley" and "hallelujah" will give you chill bumps and make your eyes water. i have never been so moved by an album and there isn't one song that is "skip-able". this album is amazing from start to finish! listen to it for yourself before believing what i or anyone else has to say about it. this is an intensely personal album and it's unbelievable that the vocals are basically live takes. it proves what a talent k.d. has and how she can topple anyone in modern music with sheer TALENT instead of manufactured marketability.
