Free Music Notes for [title of show] (2006 Original Off-Broadway Cast)Free Music Review: What a disappointment Hit: 2 StarsI had heard so much incredible buzz about this show that I couldn't
wait to buy the CD.
It's pretty slight--and really irritating to listen to all the way through.
The music sounds like it's from some kind of small-time cabaret performance,
with a strangely inappropriate 1970's sound.
And the lyrics are pretty unremarkable.
Nice try, but no cigar.
Free Music Review: Please...don't let this feeling end... Hit: 5 StarsI'm not really a review kind a gal, but when I stumbled across this page on amazon, I felt compelled to let y'all know how kick butt this musical is!! It is one of the most vulnerable and sincere pieces I've seen in a long time. I'm so very much enjoying the cd! It's an inspiring take along addition to the show going experience! I couldn't say enough about how wonderful I feel this show is. Get to gettin it.
Free Music Review: This Show Rocks! Hit: 5 StarsJeff Bowen's brother asked me to write a review. This show rocks! I honestly still laugh out loud even thinking about so many of the lines. Big shout out to Rachel Dubes.
Free Music Review: [title of rave review] Hit: 5 StarsI guess as an English major and literary snob, I've always had a certain disliking for the concept of musicals... And then someone took me to see "[title of show]". I honestly hadn't laughed that hard at ANYTHING in such a long time. It pokes fun at every [silly] musical and stage device ever used but with such joy and hope for the genre that you can't help but appreciate the cast's deep respect for the form.
This show was not written for the masses or popular appeal. Bowen and Bell wrote a show they would like to see on stage and you have to give them so much credit for both creating something completely original (and you can listen to "Original Musical" on the cd to get an idea of the interminable number of shows on Broadway that are currently derived), and for not trying to pander any jokes to a general audience. Even when backers and producers and stage managers chimed in with how they could better commercialize the show, they went the other way and kept it true to their experience. And the turn this comedy takes at the end is enough to choke up anyone who pursued a dream as hard as these writers and cast have.
I bought the CD the day it was released. There is so much subtle and not so subtle physical humor going on on-stage during the songs it's a shame it couldn't be released as a DVD instead. But hopefully that's next!! This is an incredible script and score for these two collabarators. The show seems so effortlessly constructed, but the skill and craft that went into it had to be far from effortless. Congratulations to this terrific cast! I can't wait to see the show again!
Free Music Review: [title of review] Hit: 5 StarsI love this show. I'd rather watch this show a hundred times than any other show just one single time. And that goes for the CD too. A big shout out to Bowen and Bell. And Blackwell and Blickenstaff. And Larry. Love you all. Do whatever you can to catch this show in NYC. That includes selling your original autographed opening night playbill to [insert favorite show]. Go ahead. Take it out of it's protective saran wrap covering now and sell it on ebay! You will not be dissapointed. The CD is worth the songs "A Way Back to Then" and "Die Vampire, Die" alone. If you are a fan of musical theatre or rice krispie treats (and who isn't) this CD is a must for your collection.
