Free Music Notes for [title of show] (2006 Original Off-Broadway Cast)Free Music Review: Too bad this drove me to Zzzz Hit: 1 StarsIs there anything actually tuneful about this score? Zzzz
Free Music Review: Could/Should Have Been More Hit: 3 StarsThe show has an interesting premise & occasionally shines with a smartness needed by more musicals. Unfortunately, the fact that the show was written in just three weeks only highlights that it could/should have been so much more. The score amplifies the show's weakest area ... where are the memorable songs?
Free Music Review: Great soundtrack to a stellar musical! Hit: 5 StarsI have seen the musical [Title of Show] 4 times, and it never fails to surprise, impress and entertain. Even listening to the CD over and over again reveals new and clever jokes each time. A smart, honest, funny soundtrack to an amazingly original, touching comic musical. Anyone who says they don't like the soundtrack is smug and just doesn't "get it." My advice is to go see the musical and buy the soundtrack because you won't be disappointed.
Free Music Review: [title of show] or [waster of time] Hit: 2 StarsThe Emperor Has No Clothes.
Despite the too-cute-by-half premise, there was a chance this
show could be redeemed by great songs and boffo performances.
Nope.
Maybe [title of show] might appeal to a few rabid "insiders;"
but for the rest of us who like a bit more meat and a little less
bubble gum, it's more like [waster of time].
Free Music Review: Finally a smart show that's ORIGINAL Hit: 5 StarsOk, I know there are people out there who are going to be calling the show amateurish, bear in mind this was written in 3 weeks for a musical theatre festival. However, if you fully listen to the score, and lyrics, it's SMART. This is the "Gilmore Girls" of musicals. "Monkeys and Playbills" highlights flop musicals, and names a very large amount of them. The commentary about the current sad situation of Broadway musicals is clearly pointed out in "Original Musical." References to current shows are constantly popping up in the lyrics, and it proves that you can be smart and witty and original, and be decent.
I don't think the show will work on Broadway, it's not trendy enough and the masses will not realize that they are being made fun of, but it is one that any lover of musical theatre needs to own.
