Free Music Notes for [title of show] (2006 Original Off-Broadway Cast)

Free Music Review: [best score in years on or off-broadway]
Hit: 5 Stars

This has to be one of the most clever shows to come along in a long
time. I was fortunate enough to see the original version of [title of
show] when it was put on at the 2004 NY Musical Theatre Festival. And to
me, what's most impressive about the show (and most overlooked), is that
85% of what you see and hear in the current production was written in
just 3 weeks. To witness all the creativity, skill, effort and wit that
came out of that three week deadline/collaboration, is just incredible.
Bowen and Bell didn't just do their homework on music and musicals, they
exempted themselves from the finals--and their senior years!

With it's small cast and stripped down set, [tos] may never play in a
big house, but I honestly haven't enjoyed a musical this much since
Rent. I think it's in the same league as "The Fantastiks" (even if it
doesn't have anywhere near that long a run).

It's really unfortunate that Bell's book isn't captured on the cd
because the collaboration between Bowen and Bell is not only the
centerpiece to the story, but it complements the music that much more.
Still, the songs hold up so much I can't stop playing the cd, and
wetting my pants at the same lines and parts every time!!

A huge thumbs up on this cast album and hopefully a wake up call to
Broadway to SMARTEN IT UP!! Even the Times called this show the most
enjoyable musical of the year on or off Broadway. I couldn't agree more.
If this is Bowen's first score, I can't wait to hear the next, and the
next, and the next...

Free Music Review: Too Much for Too Little
Hit: 2 Stars

$14.99 is just too much to pay for something without
a band or orchestra, just a piano accompaniment.

I thought some of the songs were cute, but nothing more
than that. Listen for yourself on the track samples--
it sounds so amateurish.

Free Music Review: Great Show - Good Cast CD
Hit: 3 Stars

Personally, I loved this show. It was clever & had a great cast. The musical was also quite good, though works better with the visuals.

Free Music Review: Yikes! Lordy Almighty!!
Hit: 1 Stars

Ummmmm....Although I didn't see this show, this has to be some of the
most lame and simplistic theatre music ever heard on a recording.
I've heard stuff at first-year student workshop presentations that had
more craft or originality. And the text setting, the stresSES are on all
THE wrong places and sylLAbles(e.g., "TenderLOIN").

Unoriginal, inept and smug; this is what happens when chorus boys
try to write! They don't have a story, don't have anything to say--and
don't have any chops to execute it--so the only solution is to naval-gaze....
It's a sad day when these dolts become
a) protagonists
b) authors
c) authors AND protagonists!

Yikes. Lordy Almighty!!
