Free Music Notes for Under a Blood Red Sky - Deluxe Edition CD/DVDFree Music Review: Red Rocks rocks! Hit: 5 Stars
First, oh well, it's not the unedited show: "Two Hearts Beats as One" is sans "Let's Twist Again" and the "Send in the Clowns" snip has been cut from "The Electric Co." That said, I really don't care. The show rocks. Not sure the CD has any real value, beyond being a remaster, but the DVD of the full concert is astonishingly crisp, given the production value. This was U2 making it big before they made it big, and an important moment for fans who've been following U2 since the early days. The director's commentary is strangely quaint -- it appears he hasn't seen the full-length video since he edited it many years ago, but that makes his commentary fresh and lively.
What should be said is that the show transcends U2 in many ways. Here's a small act with a big sound trying to persuade the world. On that level alone it has merit.
Free Music Review: Cool Songs They Don't Play Anymore Hit: 5 Stars
DVD just rocks the house. Why U2 doesn't play "Two Hearts Beat As One" anymore is beyond me. Kicking guitar and groovin bass line gets everybody dancing. The band's music has a funner guitar jammin edge to it (pardon the pun) in this concert from the early eighties. Cool songs like "Gloria", "A Day Without Me" and underrated songs like "Surrender" and "Seconds" are also never played anymore which is very sad. "40" should end every U2 concert period. Again the bass playing is exceptional throughout the concert set. The band should bring a couple of these songs back to their present setlists. "I still haven't found what I'm looking for" and several other songs that have been played a zillion times on radio need a rest.
Free Music Review: U2 - finally THE live performance you were waiting for Hit: 5 Stars
U2-Under a blood red sky was for most people the breakthrough album of this everlasting famous band. What was missing was their unreleased video coverage of this unique performance in a very special environment and very challenging weather conditions. It is out there now, don't miss it.
Next the remix of the original album gives you as a fan the combination of the 80's atmosphere in which the album was recorded and the digital remix experience you could already enjoy from the previous remixed albums like Boy, October, War and The Joshua Tree. So a definite must have for die hard U2 fans and more even for those limited group that want to discover how and why U2 became that famous. Don't miss out on this one!
Free Music Review: Rocking Red Rocks Hit: 5 Stars
I always loved Under a Blood Red Sky and when this was released with a DVD I had to get it. I have seen U2 a few times and enjoy all their music, but this was a special time for the band in their earlier days as they started to grow.
Many of the most important/famous songs from up to that point are included, GLoria, I Will Follow, Sunday Bloody Sunday. One of my favorites is Seconds.
As others have mentioned the DVD was shot in a certain way so that there seems to be strange effects going on. I wish it was also filmed in another way so that there would be a "clean" looking version just to see what it would look like, but it does not take away from a powerful performance by the band.
Free Music Review: MY INTRODUCTION TO U2... Hit: 5 Stars
"Under A Blood Red Sky" was my introduction to live U2 about 25 years ago. I had a copy of a copy that was passed around in my circle of friends, we used to actually fight over who was going to get it next and for how long. Since then I've been a huge U2 fan and will be for life. U2's music (especially live) has inspired me in many ways. U2 is truely one of the most unique bands to have ever played and to still be playing live. I highly recomend this live performance. It is awe inspiring to say the least. Go out and get some U2!
